Exiting The Terminal Application

On occasion you may need to exit the terminal application and administrate the device. This article will outline how to exit the terminal application.

From volume control, and screen brightness to system updates and restarting you are going to need to be able to exit the terminal application. Depending on how your terminal is configured there may be some extra steps needed to accomplish this.

Starting at the "Splash" or "Kiosk" wait screen seen in the screen shot below. You can expect your terminal will typically look something similar to this unless there is recent activity:

We will start our steps from here.

1. Tap anywhere on the screen to see if you can access the main menu. If you you are taken to a screen that look like the one below please proceed to step 4.

If instead you are still looking at the splash screen please proceed to step 2.

2. To exit the splash screen you will need to access a hidden settings button.

This button is located near the top center of the terminal window. It is revealed by tapping in the region highlighted in the screenshot below:

3. After clicking on the settings button you will be taken to a page where you will be asked to enter a pin to access the menu:

The pin can be received from Zift or through your merchant service provider

After entering the pin you will be taken to application main menu which will look like the one below:

zift-app-settings-menuIf your purpose for exiting the terminal application is to get parameters, or run diagnostics you can complete these steps here without needing to proceed to the next steps. However, if your need is to power off the terminal or access some of the other Android system level please proceed to the next step.

4. Access the Android navigation buttons by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to reveal them:

To access the main android application screen press the 'Circle' icon in the center. and you will be taken to a screen similar to the following:

android-main-screenFrom here you can power off, access the appstore, access the system settings, or whatever other task is required.

5. When finished you can click on the 'Zift' application and come back to the terminal splash screen .
